FOOD PREP
You know a potluck as a gathering where each guest contributes a dish of food that is shared with the group. But this is a potluck with a twist!

In order to respect public health regulations, we ask that you please assemble your contribution in our fabulous new commercial kitchen.

The kitchen will be open from 4:30pm until 6:00pm, and you are welcome to join us during this time to prepare your dish in advance (we have lots of fridge space).

Or come right before 6:00pm for “just in time” food prep.

Need inspiration? Join us for cooking demonstrations at 4:30pm. Details of the recipes that will be demonstrated will be shared in the coming days.

Share a meal, hear engaging speakers and enjoy stimulating conversation as we discuss issues about climate change and food and learn about positive change happening right here in our community.

Come for thought provoking dinner conversations, entertainment, and of course more down-to-earth food that is still out-of-this-world!

If you’d prefer not to bring a dish to the potluck, you are welcome to bring a monetary donation instead (Pay What You Can).

Alliance Against Poverty Community Forum for Free Transit for Low Income Individuals @ Historic St Pauls Lutheran Church

The Alliance Against Poverty [2] (AAP) has organized a Community
Forum on Free Transit to develop a local campaign to make public
transit free for everyone in Waterloo Region who lives in poverty. We
would really like you to participate in our Forum.

The Forum will occur on Saturday, June 3rd from 2 to 4 pm in the
fully-accessible downstairs hall of Historic St. Paul’s Lutheran
Church. This church is located in downtown Kitchener at the corner of
137 Queen St. S. and Church St., just one block away from the Charles
St. bus terminal. You enter the hall from Church St. via the large
doors. The accessibility entrance is at the rear of the church off the
parking lot, entering by the office door to the elevator. Free parking
is available in the rear lot.
Please arrive by 1:30 pm for light refreshments and conversation.
Then join a table of 12 participants. The forum will begin promptly at
2:00 pm with two brief presentations: Regan Brussé will give a
user’s perspective on public transit, and Joe Mancini of the Working
Centre will advocate for making public transit free for everyone who
lives in poverty. AAP member Richard Walsh will host and moderate the
Forum.

Attendance is limited, so please confirm your attendance as soon as
possible by ‘purchasing’ your free ticket by May 16th at the latest.

Please note: This will be a video recorded session. So as to ensure
full public availability, a recording of this session will be made
available on the Alliance Against Poverty website following the event.
Press and Media are welcome and may record this session as well. All

@SPCCND presents the 2017 Poverty Symposium @ Preston Auditorium

Each year the Social Planning Council of Cambridge and North
Dumfries holds a poverty symposium to look at issues of poverty in our
local community, provincially and nation wide. Members of the
community are invited to join discussions, listen to guest speakers
and participate in seminars. At the symposium, we hope not only to
educate the community about poverty related issues but also to take
action toward poverty alleviation.

Join us to explore how media can help raise poverty awareness Daiene
Vernile — Keynote Speaker Daiene is a former broadcast journalist who
has re-dedicated her energy to supporting community through public
service as a Kitchener MPP. Discussion Panels Comprised of panelists
with experience in sharing the message of poverty through media,
including award-winning journalists and representatives from local
initiatives. Howard Elliott — Keynote Speaker Howard has been an
editorial executive at The Hamilton Spectator for over 25 years with
active involvement in community and poverty reduction work.
